To be eligible to receive funding under the NDIS, you must meet the following criteria:

• You must be under 65 years old when you apply.
• You must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
• You may be eligible if you have a permanent and significant disability that affects your daily life or if early intervention support could help reduce future disability needs.

Under the NDIS, participants can receive funding for a variety of reasonable and necessary supports and services. These include, but are not limited to, personal care, support for daily living, access to community services and activities, transport to enable participation in social, economic, and community affairs, and workplace assistance to allow participants to gain and maintain employment.

Under the NDIS, 'reasonable and necessary supports' are funded services that help participants achieve their goals, improve independence, and engage in daily life. To be considered reasonable and necessary, a support or service:

• Must be related to the participant’s disability
• Must provide clear benefits and improve quality of life
• Must represent value for money
• Must take into account help from family, friends, or the community, and other govt services such as Medicare
• Must not include everyday living costs (e.g., rent, groceries)

The NDIS does not cover supports that are not related to a person's disability. This includes things like:

• Day-to-day living costs such as groceries, rent, and utilities.
• Supports that are already funded by other services, like Medicare or education systems.
• Items or services that do not help with a person’s disability needs.
